Artworks and Processes

1. What does giclee fine art print mean?

A giclee fine art print is a high-quality art print created using inkjet printing technology. The term originates from the French and is pronounced “zhee’clay” and it comes from the french term “gicleur,” which means “to spray.” The process ensures high resolution, smooth color gradations, and sharp detail, representing the orginial painting.

Each giclee fine art print is crafted on museum-quality, acid-free paper that promise longevity and are archival, ensuring that the vibrancy and depth of each print to endure through the years. Each print comes with a generous white boarder and hand signed by the artist.

3. Is matting and framing available for giclee fine art prints or an original painting that is not framed?

Yes, framing upon request. This will add time and cost to your purchase. I welcome requests. Inquire by sending an email to begin this discussion. I also recommendation going to your local frame shop to frame for your print or painting. My giclee fine art prints offered here are standard sizes. Original paintings are packaged carefully and with great care and details to ensure safe keeping of your original painting during transport. You will receive an email with details about shipping once the package is on it’s way.

5. Each giclee fine art print or gallery wrapped canvas reproduction may not look exactly like the original painting, why?

An original painting is always the best decision if you are in love with the artwork. The goal of offering giclee prints and gallery wrapped canvas is have different price points available. Having art in your life is pure joy. Art is a wonderful gift. Often when a painting is complete, Kathleen brings it home to display and enjoy the work before it goes to it’s next home. Art is energy, it can be a memory, a place and a part of a person’s story.

There are many steps to get a giclee fine art print. It starts with a professional photograph of orginal artwork, working with a printer to get the most pixels per inch, sharpness of image and overall quality. Then proportions of the original artwork need to be considered. Then the artist makes a final decision that best represent the orginal painting. The size of the original painting is usually large, therefore there could be an area of the painting that cannot be captured into every size of a print. If you love the painting but want a different size than what is offered, contact Kathleen to discuss. If you have more questions about this process contact Kathleen at kathmerrickart@gmail.com

6. Why are some paintings framed, or not framed and others gallery wrapped?

Getting an original painting to completion is a process, each finished painting receives a clear varnish to protect it from UV light damage, dust, etc. Then a decision is made by the artist if a frame supports the painting. Some paintings need to be framed and others do not. Kathleen will work with you as a guide if you want an original painting framed. She works with a local Vermont frame shop who she trusts. Contact Kathleen at kathmerrickart@gmail.com to start this discussion.

Gallery wrapped canvas reproductions are not framed. Gallery wrapped means the image goes around the edges of the canvas wraps on all 4 sides. The sides become part of the painting, and framing is not needed.
